Provide safe, sustainable drinking water to 400 people in rural Khyber through a solar-powered water system.
Clean Water, Real Impact & Changing Lives
Access to clean drinking water is something many of us take for granted. Yet for millions of people around the world, safe water remains out of reach.
This campaign began with the vision of an A-Level student, Farhan Akhtar, who approached Al-Mizaan Foundation seeking support for his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). His research explores an important question:
“To what extent can access to clean drinking water reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases in impoverished communities?”
Wanting to move beyond theory and create real-world impact, Farhan set out to identify a community where clean water could transform lives. Al-Mizaan Foundation was delighted to support his initiative and help connect his academic research with a genuine humanitarian project.
Following community assessments and surveys, we identified the village of Koz Kaly in District Khyber, KPK, Pakistan, where approximately 400 residents depend on a small seasonal river as their main source of drinking water. Existing solutions have failed due to unreliable electricity and a non-functional government water scheme, leaving families vulnerable to water shortages and the risks associated with unsafe drinking water.
To address this challenge, we aim to install a solar-powered water system, including a borewell, storage facilities, and a motorised pumping solution. By harnessing solar energy, the system will provide a sustainable and reliable supply of clean water without depending on an unreliable electricity network.
